Thousands of tourists flock to the area year-round for recreational activities, both outdoor and indoor. Hunting and trout fishing throughout the mountainous area are world class. Visitors also are taken by the beauty and grandeur of the Rockies: the gentle greens of early spring, the vivid wild flowers of summer, the blaze of autumn gold and the magnificence of high mountain winters. Seasonal visitors also are drawn to area museums and old mining camps, which recreate the Old West experience and culture.

Creede also supports one of the most active and energetic arts communities in the country, with a variety of commercial galleries and studios.  The Creede Repertory Theatre and an active arts organization further enhance the area’s arts profile.

The Silver Thread Scenic Byway

The Silver Thread is a Forest Service National Scenic Byway and a Colorado State Scenic and Historic Byway. The Byway ribbons through South Fork, Creede and Lake City in the San Juan Mountains. Once a toll road and stage routes for the miners, Colorado Hwy, 149 is fully paved and weaves 75 miles over the Continental Divide. Travelers will be overwhelmed at every turn with splendor and historical significance.
